Wow.
Wooooowwwww... It's been over three months since my last post, and oh so much has changed.
Well, some has. I mean, it HAS been three months.
I have been lax, people. Lazy, some may say. I mean, I haven't even been to the restaurant I'm reviewing this evening in a while. It's sad, really. Am I even qualified to write about this? Do I even have the memory skillz to muse about the food at this fine establishment?
Indeed I do.
Fair readers, I introduce you to - The Coffee Cup. In reality, I should say that I'm "re-introducing" you to it, because anyone who is a fan of 'Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives' on Food Network, as I am, may already be familiar with this place. One day, back in February 2011, my mom and I ended up in Boulder City, NV. She had been telling me for a few months that Boulder City is a super cute little town that I should check out. (My mother lives in Orange County, California. I live in Las Vegas, Nevada. Guess which one of us knows more about the area?) We finally made it to BC, and peeps, it is adorable. Its main street is a stretch of old timey diners, antique shops, a suuuuper cute bed and breakfast I'm dying to stay at (Milo's Inn at Boulder) AND EVEN... Fisher Space Pen HQ!!! I KNOW!!! (If you don't know what Fisher Space Pens are, then you're not dating a nerd. They're cool, and you should get one.)
Aaaanyway.
Boulder City is also home to The Coffee Cup, and although my mom and I had good intentions, we were too late to try it, since it closes at 2:00 p.m. I then made it my mission - I was going to try this place or die... um, trying. Finally, a few months later, Mark and I made it out there. Friends, it is as amazing as Guy Fieri says it is. Guy don't lie, as they say. (I know, no one has ever said that.)
We've been there a handful of times, and I have never been disappointed. Especially by their $1 (ONE DOLLAR) cup of never-ending coffee. But I am mostly entranced - EN freaking TRANCED by their Pork Rancheros Sauce. OMG. As far as I can tell by their menu, this only comes on one of their Breakfast Burritos (my current Coffee Cup obsession) and a burger. It should come on pretty much everything though. I don't know what they put in this sauce, other than chunks of pork and magic, but it is AMAZING. I would order it by itself if it was an option. I would love to have some at home to add to my own recipes, but, alas, I must drive to Boulder City to get it. No sacrifice there though - visit Boulder City and its cuteness, enjoy a beer in their very own brewery, take a walk (after your hearty Pork Rancheros Sauce-filled meal) or get in with the out crowd and nab your own space pen.
Worth noting: I don't think Mark's and my bill at Coffee Cup has ever been over $20. That, my friends, is a DEAL.
How did this become an ad for Boulder City? I don't know... but I do know Boulder City is charming, and you should visit sometime. Just make sure you invite me, it's been a while since I've had my Rancheros Sauce fix.

God, save the Queen if you get a chance... I'm more concerned with the Stilton.
Hi friends!
I don't know if Las Vegas has a lot of British pubs. They probably do, but I see no reason to find out. Trencher and friends introduced me to the lovely Crown & Anchor Pub a few months ago, and I am so happy to have made its aquaintance.
I have been to England, and therefore been in an actual British pub or two. Therefore I think I know real, authentic British pubs when I see one, and Crown & Anchor pulls it off perfectly. How do I know this? A) They have "No Smoking" signs that look like the signs the London Rail uses. 2) They serve scotch eggs*. III) The waitresses are all hot chicks in black tank tops and plaid mini-skirts. So... yeah... I think I know authentic when I see it, okay people? (For a first-hand opinion on this subject I'd love to bring my friend Alex here next time he visits, as he is actually FROM England. My awesome friend/his wife Alison married outside her nationality, and we all really admire her for that. My friends are breaking down walls.)
Back to the subject at hand: Crown & Anchor. Their food is soooo good. I've never had a bad meal here, and I've had a meal or two. I personally found their fish & chips to be the best I've ever had. Well, the fish anyway. Don't get me wrong, their chips are excellent too, but I've enjoyed a lot of great fries in my life. Trencher, however, has given the fish two tries and not liked it either time. He finds that the batter is doughy and overwhelms the fish. Bottom line: their fish & chips is either the best or the worst you'll ever have. You can be your own fish & chips judge, I suppose!
They have an excellent, comforting, lovely cottage pie that I definitely recommend. Now that Vegas is FINALLY cooling down, this is just the kind of meal you should be eating. Beef, vegetables and gravy with mashed potatoes... yeeeah.
The chicken breast sandwich is a favorite of a lot of my friends'. It can be ordered charbroiled or blackened with your choice of cheese. It never lets us down, especially because after midnight it's only $4.95!
Go on Sunday and your pint of PBR is only $1! I know! Party time! (They have a lot of other beers too - like a few of Trencher's favorites, Smithwick's Irish Ale and Blackthorn Cider. They're not $1 though so... Order at your own risk. Beer snobbery = bread, friends.) Note about their beers: Trencher and I have never had this problem, but a few of our friends have had very bad luck with C&A's beers on tap, as they find them to be extremely watered down. Order one from a bottle to avoid putting yourself in this dangerous situation!
Okay friends, I have gone this long without talking about my favorite new food ever: Stilton cheese. My friend Alex, actual British guy! told me that his mother would bring Stilton out every Christmas. That's how special it is, Brits reserve it for holidays. Lucky for us, we can have it whenever we want at Crown & Anchor! It's like bleu cheese, but... creamier, I guess... hey - its wonder cannot be explained in mere words. Order C&A's Stilton plate to get a hunk of delicious Stilton, crackers, tomatoes and cucumbers. (In my experience the accessories disappear before you're done with the cheese - eat the rest with fries or just by itself. Cry a little when it's gone.)
*A scotch egg is a hardboiled egg wrapped in spiced sausage. I haven't had this yet, but I will. Oh... I will. If you've had it, tell me how it is!
My friends and I are at Crown almost every Thursday night, well, Friday morning after the Two Point Suspicion show at Freakin' Frog. I expect to see you there, scotch egg in hand!

You want burgers? I got ya burgers right here!
Hiiiiii,
I cannot believe I haven't blogged about my favorite restaurant yet! Well... one of my favorite restaurants. (I cannot pick a favorite, just like my mother would claim she couldn't pick a favorite child. She just says that to make my brother feel better though.) People, you need to go to Burger Bar! It is located in Mandalay Place, which is between Mandalay Bay and Luxor.
*Hot Tip!* Park at Luxor and enter Mandalay Place through that side. Burger Bar's a lot closer to Luxor than Mandalay Bay, and believe me when I say you don't want to wait too long for some Burger Bar.
You may think that I only go to restaurants with my boyfriend Trencher, but I don't! I actually know other people, and have never, ever been to Burger Bar with him. It is really not that cool of me to tell him I love him but never bring him here. I have been here with all of my lovely girlfriends though: Jenny, Amy, Fran, Kiann and Alison, along with various others. No one has ever left here unhappy... not on my watch anyway.
Burger Bar's head chef is Hubert Keller. Mr. Keller is not only one of my mother's top crushes, he is also a James Beard award winner who came in third place on 'Top Chef Masters' in 2009. Mr. Keller loves burgers, and when visiting Burger Bar, one gets to share his love.
The idea is: choose your burger (Kobe, Buffalo, two kinds of 'regular' beef, Turkey, Chicken, Salmon or Veggie), choose your bun, then add as many or as few toppings as you'd like. Toppings range from about five or six types of cheese all the way up to foie gras and lobster! There are all kinds of veggies, different meats, sauces and my favorite topping - a fried egg. The egg is prepared juuuust right so that it's not too dry, but doesn't get too crazy eggy all over the place either. They also offer salads, build your own milkshakes and pre-made burgers, including a $60 one made with Kobe Beef and truffles. I haven't quite gotten around to trying that one yet...
Every meal I've had here has been excellent, I highly recommend checking out this delicious burger haven! My veg friend Alison has even called Mr. Keller's veggie burger the best she's ever had, and this girl knows veggie burgers! Whatever your burger preference is, you can find it at Burger Bar. And you should. And then tell me about it. Wait, better yet, invite me along. How can you say you love me and not invite me to Burger Bar??? ;) (Soon, Trench... Soon!)
